Product Description

430 stainless steel strip is a ferritic stainless steel strip characterized by its high chromium content (16-18%) and negligible nickel content, making it an economical and practical stainless steel material, also known as "stainless iron" in the industry.
Standard Specifications:
Thickness: 0.02-3.0 mm
Width: 3.5-600 mm (typically defined as steel strip when ≤600mm)
Surface Finishes: NO.1, 2B, BA, No.4, 8K (mirror), HL (brushed), etc.
Hardness: Customizable HV145-680
Chemical Composition (Weight Percentage)
Element Content
Chromium (Cr) 16.00-18.00%
Carbon (C) ≤0.12%
Silicon (Si) ≤0.75%
Manganese (Mn) ≤1.00%
Phosphorus (P) ≤0.040%
Sulfur (S) ≤0.030%
Nickel (Ni) ≤0.75% (usually ≤0.60%)
Note: Due to no or low nickel content, the cost is significantly lower than 304/316 stainless steel.
Mechanical & Physical Properties
Performance Indicator Value
Tensile Strength ≥450 MPa
Yield Strength ≥206 MPa
Elongation ≥22%
Hardness ≤200 HV (≤88 HRB)
Density 7.75 g/cm³

Coefficient of Thermal Expansion 10.4×10 mm/m/ºC (0-100ºC)
Magnetism Strongly Magnetic (attractable by magnets)
Core Features & Advantages
1. Cost-Effective
40% lower price than 304 stainless steel, an ideal alternative for dry environment applications.
Market price of cold-rolled coils: approximately RMB 7,550-7,600 per ton (September 2025).
2. Excellent Thermal Performance
Superior thermal conductivity compared to austenitic stainless steel (304/316), suitable for heat dissipation applications.
Low coefficient of thermal expansion, reducing deformation under temperature changes.
Heat fatigue resistance, ideal for cyclic heating environments.
3. Superior Workability
Excellent deep drawing performance, comparable to 304 stainless steel.
Added stabilizer titanium ensures excellent weld mechanical properties.
Suitable for cold working and bending, customizable into various shapes.
Production Process
Standard Production Flow:
plaintext
Hot Rolling → Annealing, Shot Blasting & Pickling → Cold Rolling → Annealing & Pickling → (Optional: Tempering/Surface Treatment)
Hot Rolling: Steel billets are rolled at 1100-1250ºC.
Annealing: Conducted at 780-850ºC to relieve stress and restore ductility.
Pickling: Removes oxide scale to achieve a bright surface.
Cold Rolling: Further reduces thickness and improves surface precision/hardness.
Surface Treatment: 2B, BA, polishing, or brushing as required.
Application Fields
1. Home Appliance Industry
Induction cooktop panels (accounting for ~60% market share): Perfectly matches high-temperature oxidation resistance and electromagnetic properties.
Refrigerator/freezer panels, dishwasher liners.
Oven liners, microwave components.
2. Architectural Decoration
Curtain walls, decorative trim, elevator interiors.
Ceilings, door/window frames.
3. Automotive Industry
Body trim strips, grilles.
Exhaust system components.
Sensor elements (utilizing magnetic properties).
4. Kitchenware & Food Contact
Kitchen range hoods, tableware (for dry environments).
Complies with GB 4806.9-2023 food contact standard.
Comparison with Other Stainless Steels
Feature 430 Stainless Steel Strip 304 Stainless Steel Strip Key Difference
Material Type Ferritic (magnetic) Austenitic (non-magnetic/weakly magnetic) 430 is attractable by magnets
Chromium Content 16-18% 18-20% 304 offers better corrosion resistance
Nickel Content ≤0.75% 8-10% 430 has significantly lower cost
Corrosion Resistance Good (dry environments) Excellent (chloride-containing environments) 430 is unsuitable for high-humidity/seawater environments
Price Benchmark (100%) Approximately 1.6x 430 provides higher cost-performance
Limitations
Poor resistance to chloride corrosion, unsuitable for high-salt environments (e.g., coastal areas).
Prone to rusting in humid environments, limited to dry conditions.
Limited high-temperature stability; long-term use above 600ºC may cause embrittlement due to grain coarsening.
Selection Recommendations
Suitable Scenarios:
Indoor decoration, home appliance casings, and other dry environment applications.
Projects requiring cost-effectiveness with moderate corrosion resistance.
Products demanding thermal conductivity (e.g., radiator components).
Applications utilizing magnetic properties (e.g., induction heating elements).
Unsuitable Scenarios:
Outdoor high-humidity, salt spray environments (e.g., coastal buildings).
Long-term exposure to strong corrosive media such as acids, alkalis, or salts.
Structural components operating continuously above 600ºC.
Summary
430 stainless steel strip stands out as an ideal choice for dry environment applications due to its cost-effectiveness, excellent workability, and thermal performance. If your project requires the aesthetics and durability of stainless steel within a budget, without exposure to high humidity or strong corrosion, 430 stainless steel strip is a highly cost-effective solution.
